Dear Parents and Carers
Sorry, it’s going to be a long newsletter as I have so much information to tell you!
A warm welcome to our new joiners – Logan, Sophia, Beatrix, Charlie and Brodie – who have joined us and look forward to getting to know you and your families.
A big welcome to Denise our newly appointed Deputy Supervisor, it’s been a busy week and Denise has settled into our family Pre-School team very smoothly. Here’s a little information which Denise would love to share with you.
“Hi, my name is Denise Abbott, I’m 42 years old, married and have two children aged 11 and 15. We live in Woodcote but grew up in Goring. I have seven years’ experience in looking after children aged six months to five years. I hold a level 3 qualification in child care and also have lots of hands on experience including gardening and bug hunting in the garden. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you that I love my career and believe children learn through play, whilst encouraging and supporting them to join in activities to build their confidence, self-esteem, and independence whilst having fun. I’m very excited and looking forward to being part of the preschool team and getting to know the children and their families.”
Our overarching theme this term is ‘our favourite’ and below is each weeks focus.
|Date||Topic My Favourite|
This week our adult focused activity was food. Children made sandwiches, spreading the butter and choosing from a choice of fillings, several were eaten straight away and some were taken home, we had cutting fruit and making fruit kebab rockets.
Next week is our favourite toy, a message from Charlotte ‘Does anyone have any old toy catalogues for cutting up please?’
Exciting news Goring and Cleeve Pre-School has signed up to Fair Share initiative which has teamed up with Tesco and offers local charities and community groups access to unsold food that would otherwise go to waste for free. This week we were fortunate to have a very big bag of bananas which were enjoyed at snack time.
Please continue to provide fruit and other snack as you see not everyone likes or can have bananas.
We have been busy practising our fire escape procedures, to ensure all the children understand that they have to listen when the whistle is blown. So far all the children have been superstars listening and lining up quickly, and telling us we need to phone 999! Brilliant!

Topsy Turvy Day- We would like to buy some new story sacks and story Cds for the children. To be as fair as possible to everyone so everyone can join in, we are going to have Topsy Turvy lunch club throughout the week, with a special Topsy Turvy day on Thursday 8th February. It’s will be a fun, exciting event.
The whole day will be the wrong way round or upside down, where we will have our goodbye song at the start of the session, children can dress up in PJ’s or wear clothes back to front or the wrong way round or upside down! Say goodbye instead of hello and just get in a complete muddle!
There will be prizes for all and even the staff will be joining in! We will be opening up our donation page so you can get family and friends to donate to our Topsy Turvy event. Our last sponsored event raised a whopping £700 let’s see if we could match it. Invitations will be going out shortly.

The list includes baking cakes and biscuits (or even bought ones) for us to sell, sausages to be cooked before the event and several strong pairs of hands to help put up the gazebos on the morning. This fundraising event has been established for several years, we have a sub team led by Gemma and Anna who will organise the event but do need extra volunteers to help on the day. All funds raised go towards your child’s Preschool.

Have a lovely weekend.
